More Paper Pieced Dogs from Made By Marney

Everyone seems to have that special pet in their life. Here is a sample of my “Dogs Only” paper pieced quilt done by my sweet customer, Jan. Didn’t she do a great job? I love when my friends share their photos!

This quilt was designed using photos of real pets sent to me by my customers and friends. They were my inspiration.

Here is a charity quilt sewn by Faith. She used just 1 of my block patterns, then added lots of borders. Very clever, especially if you want a fast project! Thanks for sharing, Faith.

And here are 2 very cute pillows shared by Edie. These pit bulls are named Duece and Daisy, as you can see. Edie used my Pit Bull pattern.

Here are some other dogs that I designed from customer’s requests.

Collie Block.

Corgi Block.

Pomeranian Block.

Poodle Block.

And, 1 of my all time favorites, the Chinese Crested. When I was asked to design the Chinese Crested, I asked if that was a “bird”! No kidding, I had never heard of it. After finding out it is a somewhat hairless dog, I thought, “Oh my, this block might be really ugly!” However, it turned out to be one of my faves. It reminds me of a little fairy dog.

Thanks to all of my wonderful customers and friends who share their photos. It means a lot to see how much you enjoy your paper piecing. If there is a dog pattern you want, and don’t see it on my Etsy shop, please let me know and if you can share a photo of your pet, even better!

Enjoy your week!

Paper Piecing in Down Under Quilts

Hello to my friends everywhere!  Today I am giving a special shout out to my friends and customers from Australia. I was fortunate enough to have my latest book, “Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” previewed in their magazine, “Down Under Quilts“.

There I am on the cover…well it’s not really me, but my Rudolph.

The magazine shares a FREE pattern block “Present” from my book and the instructions to make it into a placemat.

I am very busy working on some cute designs for Valentines/Winter. There is an upcoming BLOG HOP that I want to share with you. In February, I will be participating in the “Put A Little Love In Your Heart” Blog Hop from February 5-8.

Just Let Me Quilt

This is right around the corner. Everyday different quilters will be sharing a FREE pattern with a heart in it. This sounds like so much fun. I can’t wait! I will keep you posted as this fun event approaches. Some of the sights, including mine, will be offering give-aways, too.

I’ll let you know what my give-away will be next week! Stay tuned…

Paper Pieced Santa from Made By Marney

With Christmas right around the corner, I am having lots of fun designing holiday images.  I call this block “Must Be Santa“. He makes an adorable pillow.

I found this crazy cute border fabric that is made by Free Spirit and designed by David Walker, “Winter Wonderland”. This wonky snowflake fabric is the perfect match for my wonky Santa with his sweet button nose.

If you are new to paper piecing, you may find this paper piecing video helpful.

Make sure to visit my blog next week to enter all the great give-aways for the Quiltmaker 100 Blocks Blog Tour. I will be featured on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Besides getting a preview of the block I entered in the magazine, I will show you 3 more of Santa’s “pals”. All 4 of them look fabulous together in a table runner or quilt.

See you then!

Vending at the Hudson Heritage Quilters Show in Hudson, WI

I am packing up to vend at the Hudson Heritage Quilters Patchwork Harvest X Quilt Show this weekend, November 4 and 5. This will be my first time vending in Hudson. I have heard so many lovely things about this friendly community in Wisconsin.

I am very excited to take along lots of holiday patterns. Here are some of my newest Christmas paper pieced blocks.

Ho Ho Ho Santa is a cute 7 1/2″x 7 1/2″ block that will work well for gift bags, pillows, potholders, or even table runners.

And every Santa needs his Ho Ho Ho Rudolph! With these big button eyes, he is so adorable.

Here is one of my favorite penguin blocks made into the Stocking pattern from my Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas book.

If you are anywhere near Hudson this weekend…stop by and visit me at the River Crest Elementary School, 535 County Road F. I will be there Saturday and Sunday.

There will be lots to see!

Paper Piecing Workshop with Made By Marney

These friends from Wisconsin Rapids attended my Paper Piecing Workshop last Saturday. As you can see from their lovely smiles, we had so much fun! Attendees ranged from beginners to novice, but all enjoyed creating adorable Christmas blocks from my latest book, “Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas“.

We also put together the “Gift Sack” pattern, using one of the blocks we had just created.

This is a small tote to be used for gifts or decorating.

Aren’t these Halloween Trick or Treat Sacks too cute? These were made by my customer, Marilyn. She used an assortment of my Halloween block patterns and the same Gift Sack pattern from my Christmas bookHere’s a close-up of two of the totes. Adorable!

Thanks to all my new friends in Wisconsin Rapids for hosting my workshop.

Visit me on Etsy and Craftsy to see more Made By Marney patterns and books.

FREE PATTERNS TODAY! GIVE-AWAYS TODAY!

Welcome to the 3rd Annual Row Along hosted by Seams to Be Sew.  A huge Thank You to Marian Penn for organizing this event. Also, thanks to our sponsors, Northcott Fabrics  and Calibre Art . Our sponsors are wonderful and we owe them a HEAP of gratitude. Read to the end of this post to find information about the Give-Aways from Northcott and Calibre.

This is your chance to download tons of free row patterns.  I am just 1 of many pattern designers involved in this row-along. This year’s row-along will last for 6 weeks, ending with a “Show and Tell” day Tuesday, October 10. Starting September 5, every Tuesday and Thursday 5 (some days 4) different pattern designers will be offering a FREE row pattern. All rows will measure 30 1/2″ long, so all will consistently fit together into the quilt of your choosing.

Each row is designed with a specific Christmas carol in mind. My row was inspired by “Jolly Old St. Nick”.  I love to paper piece images of Santa, and this is the perfect song. The pattern is paper pieced and is very easy to assemble. If you are new to paper piecing, I suggest you watch my free tutorial on sewing a Simple Paper Pieced Block, found on my “Tutorials” page.

Here are photos of the 4 blocks that make up my row.  Remember, when paper piecing, your finished block always turns out the opposite of the original pattern.

The pattern explains how to tie a “knot nose” using a scrap of muslin. So cute! My finished row shows the “Jolly Old St. Nick” row finished as a table runner with an inner and outer border. Also, consider using just the “HO HO” block for a pillow or potholder!

Paper Pieced Dog Patterns

Some of my favorite paper pieced dog patterns have been inspired by my sweet customers and friends.

This Pit Bull design was inspired by the photo below, sent to me by a loyal customer.

What a sweet heart of a pit bull! I’ve never owned a pit bull, and, admittedly, it wasn’t on my list of dog patterns to tackle. But when I saw this adorable pup, I was in love.

These pillows were made by Edie Fagg, a super sweet customer, using my Pit Bull pattern. I love to see how others interpret my patterns, choosing their own fabrics to express themselves in a creative manner.

Here’s a pillow created by Julie Rosenthal. Love that tiny checked fabric on the dog’s face! Super cute choice, Julie!

Please keep sharing your photos. It’s so much fun to see what you are creating.

You can find more dog patterns on my Etsy and Craftsy sites.  Above are 2 more patterns, Chihuahua and Corgi.

More Paper Piecing Ideas from Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Too adorable for words…here’s the Gift Sack pattern from my Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas paper piecing book. Use for wrapping a present or as a table decoration holding Christmas greens.

This Gift Sack is cute in a variety of different paper pieced blocks. Pictured here are samples using other blocks from my book.  Underneath is the Table Topper, using the Polar Bear blocks, some of my favorites.

I will be posting more projects from my book soon…stay tuned 🙂 Find all of my patterns and books at Etsy or Craftsy.

Introducing my newest Paper Piecing Book

Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” is my new paper piecing book. This is a great book for beginners, but has plenty to keep the more advanced quilter happy, too.Paper Piece PatternsI have always loved decorating for Christmas, so creating the 16 adorable images for this book was such fun! Included in this book are 8 cute projects to use the interchangeable paper pieced blocks. In the next couple of posts, I will be sharing all 8 of these projects. Remember, you can substitute any of the images with the 16 Christmas blocks, or any of the many paper pieced blocks found on my Etsy and Craftsy stores.

madebymarney.comTThe easiest pattern is a super simple potholder.  I like to keep my designs and patterns EASY. I love to whip together some cute holiday gifts now, and set them aside for the holidays, when I am always looking for a small gift. This Reindeer has a tinsel pompon for the nose, which may be substituted for an appliqued circle of felt or wool. I like using a stripe for the binding.

I love the Elf. Finding the fabrics for him was fun. Using a brown stripe for his hair gave it more dimension. His nose is a 1/2″ tan pompon, but could be substituted with a button or appliqued circle of fabric, felt, or wool.
