What’s New?

These are some of the new blocks I have been creating. Most of them were customer requests.

HAPPY PIT BULL

HAPPY PIT BULL is a rendition of a customer’s pet. Although pit bulls are not my favorite breed, I’m loving them more now that I have this sweetie. I love this image so much, I put it on the back of a shirt. No one will mess with me now.

SHELTIE BLOCK

This SHELTIE is Caroline’s pet named Skittles. Adorable!

MASTIFF BLOCK

This is a very serious dog, the MASTIFFF. And this is a sweetheart of a dog…

CUTE PUPPY BLOCK

CUTE PUPPY reminds me of a beagle, but she is actually no specific breed.

BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG

And finally the BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG…what a cutie.

On the request of some special customers, I have designed 2 springtime Gnomes…

BUMBLE BEE GNOME
LADYBUG GNOME

The BUMBLE BEE GNOME and the LADYBUG GNOME would be great as a set of potholders or pillows for spring and summer!

What patterns are you looking for Spring and Summertime?

Some Holiday Projects

I am always asking my customers to send photos of the things they create using my patterns. Today I am sharing some of my favorite photos.

This adorable wall hanging was sewn by Carol Cheesman using LUMBERJACK GNOME, SANTA GNOME, and GNOME WITH GIFTS.

Elise Brasseale made these cute little mug rugs using the elf from SEW YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, and GNOME WITH LANTERN.

Crafty Judy Miniclier created this adorable GNOME QUILT, using assorted GNOMES FROM MY SHOP. Beautiful!

These Christmas blocks were shared by Joyce Albers. She is creating a holiday quilt. She used HO HO HO SANTA, CARDINAL, ICE SKATE, and EASY ICE SKATE.

Joyce Olson created this super cute CAMPING QUILT, using a variety of my patterns plus my CAMPING BLOCKS.

Maridee Hargis made my SNOWMAN GNOME block into a potholder.

I just want to kiss this little guy, LABRADOODLE BLOCK. Little mat sewn by Monique Covell.

And my last customer project for today is from Mary Edholm, sewing this sweet UNICORN PILLOW, using my UNICORN BLOCK.

HOLIDAY GOLDEN RETRIEVER
HOLIDAY FRENCH BULLDOG
HOLIDAY DACHSHUND

I am making these 3 holiday dogs for some Xmas pillows…HOLIDAY GOLDEN RETRIEVER, HOLIDAY FRENCH BULLDOG, and HOLIDAY DACHSHUND.

Happy sewing!

Foxy Valentine

My Foxy Valentine paper pieced block is featured in the January/February issue of QUILTMAKER magazine.

FOXY VALENTINE

This Foxy block pattern is only available in the Quiltmaker magazine at this time.

I’ve included a pillow pattern in the magazine, too. I have my Foxy Valentine pillow on my sofa this month.

Here are some other cute Valentine patterns.

VALENTINE BLOCK I
VALENTINE BLOCK II

These 2 block patterns are in my newest book PAPER PIECING ALL YEAR ROUND. I’m using them in my hanging towels. This project is included in the book, as well as many more home decor patterns.

LOAD OF LOVE is an adorable block. Surprise your favorite “truck lover” with this special valentine.

LOAD OF LOVE
EYE LOVE U PUPPY

The EYE LOVE U PUPPY block is cute as can be! I’d love to see the projects you make from this block.

BE MINE PUPPY

Here’s a sweet puppy holding a valentine, BE MINE PUPPY. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner… what will you create?

Dogs, Dogs, Dogs…For a Good Cause.

This adorable handmade paper pieced DOG QUILT is being offered in an online auction, benefits to go to the Street Dog Foundation.

The quilt was lovingly paper pieced by Janet, using my dog patterns, of course! She donated all of the materials and her time for the Street Dog Foundation’s benefit. It would be great if you would show your support by placing a bid on this lovely quilt in the next 2 weeks, after which bidding will end.

HOLIDAY GOLDEN RETRIEVER

And speaking of dog patterns, here are my 4 newest dogs just in time for the holidays… Holiday Golden Retriever reminds me of my first dog, a lovable Golden.

Holiday Pug

This Holiday Pug block was inspired by my Pug loving customers. There are so many of them!

Holiday French Bulldog

The Holiday French Bulldog block would make a super cute pillow for Christmas, or anytime!

Holiday Dachshund

The Holiday Dachshund was inspired by a good friend who loves them.

I would love to see what you can create with these new holiday blocks…please share photos! Here are some of my customers latest photo shares…

Doggie Tree Skirt

I am in love with Marilyn’s Doggie Tree Skirt. This tree skirt could be made by substituting my dog blocks for the Christmas blocks in my Christmas Tree Skirt Sampler.

Rescue, It Does A Body Good

Can you believe this cute as can be rescue quilt created by Gina? Love it!

This is Judy being creative. She took my Pit Bull block pattern and revised it to create an image that looks exactly like her dog. I am so proud of my very talented customers!

Here’s a great version of Doggies in black and white fabrics from Bobbi. Can’t wait to see what you are making from my dog blocks!

Paper Piecing All Year Round

My newest book, PAPER PIECING ALL YEAR ROUND, is ready for pre-sale from Amazon. I don’t even have a copy of it yet…that’s how new it is!

PAPER PIECING ALL YEAR ROUND

This book has something for everyone. I have designed 2 images for each month of the year… that means you will be getting 24 paper pieced block patterns, plus the patterns for 7 different projects. All blocks fit in all patterns in this book, as well as all of the projects in my previous 5 books.

TWO GNOMES

These 2 adorable Gnomes are the images for March. Here I have used them together in a pillow. Pillow pattern is included, as are all of the projects I show you in this post.

TWO PATRIOTIC PUPS

These 2 July puppies are shown in MINI QUILTS that work great on wire quilt stands, or even as wall hangings.

ACORN AND SQUIRREL

Lots of customers have been asking me for a Squirrel pattern, so I am including him in this book. These September POTHOLDERS can also be used as MINI QUILTS.

TURKEY 1

Here are 2 TURKEYS that would look great in your home for November!

DOGGIE BABY BIBS

Start whipping up some early Christmas gifts with these stinkin’ cute December dog blocks. So easy…you could make these in a day!

OCTOPUS AND CRAB

This BABY BLANKET whips together in no time. Use any 3 cute blocks of your choice and you are on your way to an adorable baby gift.

These super easy hand towels could be used in your kitchen or bathroom. Customize them with any 2 images from my book. Wouldn’t the Octopus and Crab also work great as bath towels?

As you can see, you are getting LOTS … with 24 paper pieced block patterns, and 7 project patterns! But just for fun, let’s add an extra FREE project pattern right here! Attach any of the Mini Quilts to the top of this CALENDAR HOLDER with a strip of Velcro. This will make the Mini Quilts interchangeable.

CALENDAR HOLDER

This Calendar Holder is 15″ wide and 28″ long.

Cut from main fabric: Cut one 15″ x 28″ rectangle. Cut one 15″ x 25″ rectangle for pocket (to be folded in half). Cut two 2 1/2″ x WOF strips for binding.

Cut from muslin: Cut one 15″ x 28″ rectangle for backing.

Cut from fusible fleece: Cut one 15″ x 28″ rectangle for main body. Cut one 15″ x 12 1/2″ for pocket.

Cut from Fast 2 Fuse Interfacing, Heavy: Cut two 2″ x 15″ strips. Cut one 4″ x 15″ strip.

  1. Fuse the fusible fleece to the wrong side of the 15″ x 28″ main body using a pressing cloth. Fuse one of the 2″ x 15″ Fast 2 Fuse strips to the wrong side of the main body, at the top. Fuse the 4″ x 15″ Fast 2 Fuse strip to the center. Pin the muslin to the back of the main body. Top stitch approximately 1/4″ from the edges of all Fast 2 Fuse pieces through all layers, to keep them in place.
  2. Pocket: Fuse the 12 1/2″ x 15″ fusible fleece to the wrong side of the pocket, at the bottom. Fuse the remaining 2″ x 15″ Fast 2 Fuse strip overlapping the top of the fusible fleece. this will give extra strength to the top of the pocket. Fold the remainder of the fabric to the back of the pocket for lining. Top stitch 1/4″ from the edges of the Fast 2 Fuse strip to keep it in place.
  3. Pin the pocket at the bottom of the main body, matching the bottom corners and the raw edges. Prepare the 2 strips of binding. Bind around the 4 sides of the calendar holder, catching the pocket as you stitch.
  4. Hand sew a hanging pocket to the back, or hang as desired.
  5. Slide a piece of cardboard into the pocket, then slide in the calendar. I used a calendar from the Dollar Store, which came with the a piece of cardboard.
  6. Machine stitch a 10″ strip of velcro 1″ from the top of the Calendar holder, on the right side.
  7. Hand stitch a strip of Velcro to the back of any of the Mini Quilts to hang at the top of your Calendar Holder.

Getting Ready for My Valentine…

It’s time to dig out my Valentine pillows. I’m looking forward to some chocolate and flowers! Right?

This is a Valentine doggie block I designed in 2019.

BE MINE PUPPY

This cutie I designed this year…

EYE LOVE U PUPPY

Wouldn’t these blocks make cute pillows or potholders? I’m going to try to sew them up before Valentine’s Day.

Both patterns can be found in my ETSY SHOP. I’d love to see what you can create using these sweet pups.

The winner of my CARDINAL WALL HANGING pattern is Nancy B. Congrats to her!

Sew Sweet!

Some super sweet customers have been sharing photos of adorable projects they have created using my paper piece patterns. I LOVE to see their fun creations.

Bella is a first time paper piecer. She entered her CORGI quilt in her 4H competition and won first place. I love how she repeated the dog blocks in an Andy Warhol Pop Art inspired composition.

Andy Warhol’s
Marilyn Monroe

Sharon created this awesome neutral colored Dog and Cat quilt. She has incorporated blocks not only from me, but from lots of designers. This makes the quilt very interesting, since it’s not just one designer’s view point.

This is cuteness overload…Lori has made this adorable dog pillow for her sweet dog, Bear.

I am in love with Jennifer’s festive red, white, and blue Chihuahua!

Bella the Labradoodle

Here’s a photo of Bella, cutest little Labradoodle ever. This is my girl friend’s pet, and she wants a memory pillow of lovely Bella. Sweet Bella is slowly loosing her eyesight.

LABRADOODLE BELLA

LABRADOODLE BELLA is my newest dog pattern. Here’s the pillow that I made, too!

And here’s another new dog block to add to my collection of over 65 different dog breeds, the AFGHAN HOUND.

AFGHAN HOUND

Coming soon is the WINTER BLUES BLOG HOP, a collection of bloggers and artists sharing projects done with the color blue. Can’t wait!

Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop with Marney

I am so excited to be part of the 2019 Virtual Cookie Exchange and Blog Hop hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt. I hope you will visit the other bloggers and enjoy their many yummy cookie recipes.

I am a paper piece pattern designer from Wisconsin, and I LOVE to create holiday patterns. Last Christmas I designed this HOLIDAY BUDDIES table topper .

HOLIDAY BUDDIES TABLE TOPPER

I love the Caroler, and thought he needed a caroling partner.

Caroler

This is my CAROLING DOGGIE.

CAROLING DOGGIE

These CAROLING BUDDIES would make an adorable set of holiday potholders.

Let’s make some cute as can be Christmas cut out cookies to match my new potholders. My cookie recipe collection has been growing over the years. Some of my favorite Christmas cookie recipes were shared by friends and co-workers. The recipe I am sharing with you is for Christmas cut-out cookies and was shared by my secretary at school, Marge. I have always loved these cut outs, and they work especially well for thicker cut outs, which are my favorites! You can click on the title of the cookie to get a downloadable PDF version for your recipe files.

Marge’s Sugar Cookies

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted confectioners sugar
  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp almond flavoring
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar

Mix sugar and butter. Add egg and flavorings, mix thoroughly. Stir dry ingredients together and blend in. Refrigerate 2 hours (I cheat here).

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Divide dough into “manageable” amount to roll on lightly floured surface.

Cut with cookie cutters. Place on lightly greased cookie sheets.

Bake7-8 minutes.

Cool and frost with your favorite frosting. I am going to cheat and buy some canned vanilla frosting.

Dog Quilt Blocks

Three new doggie quilt blocks designed by customer request.

Lisa sent this photo of Atilla Bear the Chow Chow, hoping for a paper pieced pattern.

Atilla Bear

This is the finished CHOW CHOW PAPER PIECED PATTERN. I was a bit timid when approaching this design, as Chow Chows have lots of fur, and it is always a challenge to represent fur in paper piecing, but still maintaining a fairly simple pattern.

Another customer requested a boxer pattern. Here’s a photo of her pup. Isn’t he a cutie?

I decided to tackle this breed from both angles. Here’s my first attempt in profile.

Boxer 1

This BOXER PATTERN is super easy. But my customer wanted something with more detail, so I designed this…

Boxer 2

The BOXER 2 PATTERN has more detail. Although the ears are a bit tricky, I do love how it turned out.

Which one is your favorite new dog pattern?

Sewn by Donna

Thanks to Donna for sharing a photo of this adorbs quilt she just finished using my DOGS ONLY pattern, plus a few more of my doggies…

Thanks for all the participants in last month’s Row-Along blog hop. Congrats to Gina, the winner of my free Unicorn Quilt pattern.
