My Favorite Paper Pieced Halloween Patterns

I love designing Halloween patterns. Here are some of my favorite designs from 2017.

Batty Bat  is sold as part of the “Boo Collection“. I love the simplicity of this design. It sews together easily, and it would make an adorable potholder or pillow.

Spooky Spider is so darn cute. This pattern is also found in the “Boo Collection“. I used pin stripe white and black fabric for his teeth, but they could also be stitched on top of white fabric with black thread, or drawn with a black permanent pen.

Fraidy Cat is 1 of my favorite cat patterns, and I have designed many cats!

The “Boo Collection” is a table runner/potholder pattern which includes 6 different Halloween blocks. I’ll share more Halloween block photos next time, including that adorable “Skat Cat” in my featured image. Stay tuned…

Paper Pieced Dog Patterns

Some of my favorite paper pieced dog patterns have been inspired by my sweet customers and friends.

This Pit Bull design was inspired by the photo below, sent to me by a loyal customer.

What a sweet heart of a pit bull! I’ve never owned a pit bull, and, admittedly, it wasn’t on my list of dog patterns to tackle. But when I saw this adorable pup, I was in love.

These pillows were made by Edie Fagg, a super sweet customer, using my Pit Bull pattern. I love to see how others interpret my patterns, choosing their own fabrics to express themselves in a creative manner.

Here’s a pillow created by Julie Rosenthal. Love that tiny checked fabric on the dog’s face! Super cute choice, Julie!

Please keep sharing your photos. It’s so much fun to see what you are creating.

You can find more dog patterns on my Etsy and Craftsy sites.  Above are 2 more patterns, Chihuahua and Corgi.

Loon On The Lake Paper Pieced Pattern

After spending a relaxing week at my cabin in norther Wisconsin, I was going “looney”. No, not crazy looney… I now have a pair of loons at Morgan Lake. Prior to this, there was only 1 lonely loon every year. Falling asleep every night to that soulful loon’s call was magical. I was motivated to create “Loon on the Lake“.

I will add this to my collection of other northwoods paper pieced animals.

The lumbering bear

The cute as can be fox

The grinning wolf

And the somber moose.

All patterns are available on Etsy and Craftsy, some as single block patterns and some in table runners.

Nursery Rhyme Paper Pieced Quilt Pattern

You probably know how I design in tangents…well lately I’ve been on a nursery rhyme obsession. I was inspired by a very old Richard Scary “Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme” book.

This paper pieced pattern has nine different nursery rhymes…can you figure out what they are by the images? Here are a few:

This one is pretty easy…The Cow Jumped Over the Moon from the nursery rhyme “Hey Diddle Diddle”.

This one is perhaps not as well known, “The Owl and the Pussycat”.

These blocks were so much fun to put together. They remind me of reading the Richard Scary book to my kids when they were toddlers.

Here’s a little pillowcase I made from the “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” block for my little friend Eliot. The block is a small pocket on the pillowcase to hold a sweet book, or a snack for a car ride. This is Eliot’s favorite nursery rhyme, and the little blonde boy is supposed to look like him…faces are hard to paper piece!

This quilt pattern is available on Etsy and Craftsy.

P.S. Sorry about all the obnoxious “Made By Marney” words, but I have to watermark everything 🙁

Patriotic Paper Pieced Quilt from Made By Marney

If you like to donate for “Quilts of Valor”, this is a great pattern for you. This patriotic quilt, measuring 39″x 52″, incorporates lots of different quilting methods: piecing, paper piecing (my favorite!!), and applique. It is also a “scrap loving” quilt, since so often the fabrics are donations. The bold chevron pattern is so rich, from using different values of reds, creams, and whites. This is why scraps work so well.

Here is a smaller version of this quilt done as a 21″ x 21″wall hanging. And wouldn’t it make a sweet pillow, too?

I love how the stripes appear to be “waving”. It’s a super easy technique.

The Homeward Bound Quilt/Wall Hanging pattern is available on Etsy or Craftsy.

Also, thanks to Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts for hosting her fun “link parties”.

More Paper Piecing Ideas from Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Too adorable for words…here’s the Gift Sack pattern from my Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas paper piecing book. Use for wrapping a present or as a table decoration holding Christmas greens.

This Gift Sack is cute in a variety of different paper pieced blocks. Pictured here are samples using other blocks from my book.  Underneath is the Table Topper, using the Polar Bear blocks, some of my favorites.

I will be posting more projects from my book soon…stay tuned 🙂 Find all of my patterns and books at Etsy or Craftsy.

Introducing my newest Paper Piecing Book

Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” is my new paper piecing book. This is a great book for beginners, but has plenty to keep the more advanced quilter happy, too.Paper Piece PatternsI have always loved decorating for Christmas, so creating the 16 adorable images for this book was such fun! Included in this book are 8 cute projects to use the interchangeable paper pieced blocks. In the next couple of posts, I will be sharing all 8 of these projects. Remember, you can substitute any of the images with the 16 Christmas blocks, or any of the many paper pieced blocks found on my Etsy and Craftsy stores.

madebymarney.comTThe easiest pattern is a super simple potholder.  I like to keep my designs and patterns EASY. I love to whip together some cute holiday gifts now, and set them aside for the holidays, when I am always looking for a small gift. This Reindeer has a tinsel pompon for the nose, which may be substituted for an appliqued circle of felt or wool. I like using a stripe for the binding.

I love the Elf. Finding the fabrics for him was fun. Using a brown stripe for his hair gave it more dimension. His nose is a 1/2″ tan pompon, but could be substituted with a button or appliqued circle of fabric, felt, or wool.

Welcome to My Blog Tour

I am thrilled to be part of the Quiltmakers 100 Blocks Blog Tour. There I am on the cover of Volume 15 (second row from the bottom…the perch and bobber).  I was tickled to see my block included on the cover with so many other great designers. To win a free copy of the magazine from the editors, make sure to leave a comment below!! AND include your email address so I can communicate with the winners.

I am “Made By Marney”, an independent pattern designer from Wisconsin. I have been sewing since birth, and quilting for the past 30 years.  I started designing paper pieced patterns 5 years ago after retiring from teaching art for 35 years at an elementary school in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. I currently have 130 patterns available on Etsy and Craftsy, and 2 books:

Cute and Clever Totes is a collection of 16 paper pieced blocks and 6 tote patterns.

Sew Yourself A Merry Little Christmas is a compilation of 16 paper pieced blocks and 8 holiday projects.  As you can see, I LOVE paper piecing!

Here’s my block,  Goin’ Fishin’. This is a paper pieced pattern and is very easy!

After paper piecing the bobber and the perch, sew these three sections together to create your 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ unfinished block.

Stitch the “fishing line” wherever you desire with black embroidery floss and a running stitch. Add a small button for the eye after the block has been quilted.

Using a striped fabric for the fins and tail gives a more realistic quality to the image.

These potholders are 1 clever idea for using your block. This block would also make an adorable pillow.

And now for more give-aways!

2 lucky winners will receive patterns. Each winner will be sent 1 of these patterns:

Winner #1 will receive DOGS ONLY QUILT pattern.

Winner #2 will receive CATS N DOGS QUILT pattern.

All of the patterns are paper pieced. Pattern prizes will be mailed to anyone in the US and downloaded to any international winners.
