“Dogs Only” Paper Pieced Quilt Pattern from Made By Marney

The Dogs Only quilt (42″x 51″) was so much fun to design. Each paper pieced block was inspired by a real dog, whose photo was shared with me by their loving owner! I will include some of the photos of the real life inspiration dogs in todays blog, and others will be shared in later blogs. There were so many proud pet owners that I have made “extra” blocks that can be purchased separately and substituted, if desired.

The Airedale is “Guinness” and the owner is Heidi Dronchi.

The Shih Tzu is “Molly” and the owner is Glenda Becker.

The Beagle is “Copper” and the owner is Lynn Much.

The Dachshund is “Oscar” and the owner is Jennifer Strauser.

The Bull Dog is “Tucker” and the owner is Lindsey Grover.

I will reveal the names of more dogs and their proud owners soon…

A Made By Marney paper pieced pattern used in a tote bag!

A clever customer, Mary Ehlert, used a paper pieced block from my Forest Friends pattern to decorate her tote bag. How cute! All the animals in my pattern can be used for lots of projects, not only quilts. I love that Mary shared her creativity with us.

Dinosaur Paper Pieced Quilt Pattern

The paper pieced Dinosaur Quilt measures 44″x 60″. As you can see, it highlights 6 cool dinosaurs: Stegosaurus, T-Rex, Spinosaurus, Brontosaurus, Pterodactyl, and my personal favorite, Triceratops.Using a striped fabric for the teeth makes the paper piecing go super quick! It is such an easy way to get that GRRRRR look.

A zigzag fabric works cool for the teeth, too. There are so many nice chevron fabrics available right now, so finding a fabric similar to the black and white zigzag should be fairly easy. I found mine at my local quilt shop.

In the Stegosaurus, I just used a simple black fabric for his teeth. And I love using the tiny black and white stripe for his toes. It adds a nice graphic quality to the quilt.

I satin stitched the words, but they could easily be machine embroidered. If you increase the stitch width at the end of each letter as you satin stitch, the letters look a bit fancier.

Paper Pieced Silly Safari Quilt

This easy to paper piece quilt is filled with delightful jungle animals!I can’t decide which bird is my favorite…

but there are 4 to choose from: Macaw, Toucan, Parrot and Flamingo.

But my absolute favorite is the zebra! This quilt was inspired by the lovely zebra print fabric! One look at this luscious fabric and I knew my next quilt was going to be all jungle animals.

Paper Pieced Lion Quilt… “ROAR”

“ROAR”, the paper pieced lion, is the second quilt from a series of jungle animal quilts that I am designing. He is so adorable! This is a very easy quilt to assemble.

The lion consists of 4 blocks put together, and the letters are super easy.

“Roar” would be a great buddy for your child to cuddle.

Giraffe Paper Pieced Pattern

What a happy herd of giraffes. Paper piece this sweet quilt with fast and easy blocks. This quilt would be adorable in any child’s room!

Each giraffe is constructed from two 8″x 8″ paper pieced blocks. Using 1″ wide rick rack for their mane makes the piecing fast and easy.

The giraffe blocks can be used for other fun projects, too.

Here is my son, Brady, holding a cute pillow. Who doesn’t love giraffes!

Cats N’ Dogs Paper Pieced Quilt

My Cats N’ Dogs Quilt was inspired by a customer asking for some dog blocks for her son, who is a huge dog lover. Once I start designing blocks for a particular subject, I get on a roll and come up with a dozen different designs. In this instance, I like them all. And why stop at dogs…let’s toss in a few cats as well.

Here’s my neighbor’s Schnauzer. He walks this dog every morning and he (my neighbor, not the dog) is always carrying a cup of coffee as he walks. I always thought that was interesting, since he lives a number of blocks away from me and still juggles that cup of coffee on his morning walk with Schnauzer.

This is “Who Dat Cat”. I love the expression on her face! I want to make an entire quilt just using this cat in all different colors.

And here is “Happy Dog”. He looks like he wants to leap right out of the quilt in glee!

This quilt would be a fun block of the month project! Is anyone interested in doing this with me on my website?

“Forest Friends” Paper Pieced Quilt and Table Runner

“Forest Friends” has been such a fun quilt to design. It reminds me of all the wonderful woodland walks I took as a child on the farm. Spring was always the best time to explore the woods and there were all manner of animals, hedgehog, deer, raccoon, owls, foxes, and rabbits. I have a lovely friend, Sue Kerr, who does machine embroidery for me and she chose the perfect font for “Forest Friends.” Thanks, Sue!

“Boots the Fox” and “Bandit the Raccoon” are 2 of my favorites. The tiny black flange around the animals makes a striking outline which I love.

“Blinky the Owl” looks very intelligent. And I’m using buttons to create that wonky eyeball look. If this quilt were being used for a baby blanket, I would switch the buttons to appliqued circles of fabric or wool.
